THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 113 people died in Kerala during this monsoon season that was replete with communicable diseases. Dengue, leptospirosis, H1N1, and Zika virus were the dangers that took away all 113 lives. 3,80,186 people in Kerala reached hospitals seeking treatment for these diseases.
In 37 days, 54 people died after contracting dengue. According to our reports, 65 died in the state from dengue alone. All these deaths happened in the month of June. Earlier, there were accusations about the corporation working lackadaisically, failing to do proper sanitation work to thwart mosquitoes from gathering near squalid spots in the city. This opened doors for calamity. The death counts are alarming since the numbers are higher than what it was in previous years. 16 people died of H1N1, 5 died with Zika while 34 people succumbed to leptospirosis.
This year, 15,579 people were affected by chicken pox. Among these, four people died.
