MALAPPURAM: The Muslim League will decide on Sunday whether to participate in a seminar organized to be by the CPM on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code. State President Panakkad Sadiqali Shihab Thangal will hold a political affairs committee meeting at his residence at 9.30 am.

There is a difference of opinion in the League over cooperating with the CPM. A section of the League is of the opinion that the League should not fall for CPM's strategy of wooing the minorities and that will fuel the rumours that the League is getting close to the LDF. The Muslim Coordination convened by the League included the partners Samasta and excluded Jamaat-e-Islami. They also pointed out that the participation of the League in the seminar will cause a crack in Muslim coordination. Meanwhile, another section is raising Congress national leadership's lack of clear stand on the Uniform Civil Code and the cold reaction of the Congress in Kerala. Muslim League national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty is of the opinion that the League can cooperate with anyone on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code. He is not ready to reject the stand of the CPM.

When asked whether the CPM's decision is aimed at creating a rift in the UDF, League state general secretary PMA Salam responded that everything should not be seen as negative. "As a constituent party of the UDF, the League will think about the future and take a decision. Everyone should be made part of the protest against the uniform civil code. It should not be used as an opportunity for political exploitation," Salam said.
