KOLLAM: Newly introduced AI cameras caught 243 vehicles recently and all for some odd reason. The registration papers and licenses of the caught vehicles were intact, so it was not for any usual flubs that the AI camera worked to trap these vehicles. Most of the 243 vehicles caught are superbikes which costs more than Rs 10 lakhs in the market. These bikes often hit the road for racing, mostly at the wee hours of the night and sometimes going a bit impish to race amidst swarming traffic.

Even if the police beckons stop sign, the vehicles will screech away at speed avoiding legal action. Earlier it was difficult to track such vehicles as they easily evaded punitive actions. But now, the AI camera is on the roll and has decided to take these vehicles to tasks. Some others have mastered new tricks to cover number plates using face masks and covers to fool AI cameras. Some other number plates were found to be tampered with. After the AI clicked all the images, the police reached the owners' residences and seized the vehicles that breached the traffic norms. Chavara police produced nine vehicles before the court for the grave violation committed. Meanwhile, the rest of the vehicles were given back to their owners after they paid the fine.

The city police have informed us about adopting strong measures in the coming days against people deviously changing and covering number plates. Rs 10,000 will be hefted fine for such crimes.
