CHENNAI: A 22-year-old woman suffered the most tragic of death in Chennai after falling from the train while fighting a robbery attempt. The incident happened on July 2 at Indira Gandhi railway station. Preethi was injured in the fall and was continuing treatment amidst being critical.
On July 2nd evening, Preethi was returning from work. She was traveling from Kotturpuram to Thiruvanmiyur in an MRTS train. Local trains are most sought after in Chennai city and are often choc full of people. Preethi found space near the door and had her earphones fixed to avoid the clamor inside the train. At Indira Gandhi railway station, two youngsters tried snatching away her mobile phone. The vehicle started gaining speed and Preethi held on to the phone but fell from the train on the platform hitting the head.
Meanwhile, Preethi’s brother accused the passers-by in the railway station of showing neglect to Preethi while it was one kindred man who called the ambulance and informed her parents about the incident. The cybercrime unit tracked Preethi's phone and reached in front of Besant Nagar native Raju’s home. He admitted to purchasing the phone for Rs 2000 from two guys.
The police conducted a detailed search for the assailants and finally caught Vignesh and Manimaran. Both admitted to the crime.
