NEW DELHI: North India has been drenched in heavy rains for two days. Monsoon rains broke the record of 41 years in Delhi. Delhi has received 153 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department says that this is the first time since 1982 that such heavy rains have been received.

Delhi

Heavy rainfall caused by tropical storms and monsoon winds. Yellow alert has been announced in Delhi. Heavy rains flooded underpasses, markets and hospitals. Videos and pictures of people walking in knee-deep water on the roads are circulating on social media.

Himachal Pradesh

In the last 24 hours, five people have died due to rain in Himachal Pradesh. Three died in Shimla, one each in Champa and Kullu.

Rivers are overflowing crossing the danger line. Several SDRF and NDRF units have been deployed in the area. Red alert has been declared in many places. The Meteorological Department has stated that there has been heavy damage in Manali. Landslides occurred at many places. Mandi-Kulu National Highway was closed and a bridge was washed away. Cars parked in Manali were washed away. Travel from Kullu and Manali has been banned due to the threat of landslides.

Jammu and Kashmir

River Jhelum is overflowing. Rivers are overflowing at the same level as flood water.

Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan

All the three states received heavy rainfall. Houses flooded. Four people lost their lives in Rajasthan due to heavy rains. Two of them were killed by lightning and two were drowned.
