THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the Muslim League's decision to not participate in the seminar organized by the CPM against the Uniform Civil Code, opposition leader VD Satheesan took a dig at the CPM leaders. VD Satheesan taunted that the CPM leaders were so foolish to think that the IUML would come as soon as they were invited to a seminar. He also warned that the UDF will dismantle the communal appeasement that the CPM has been doing in Kerala for seven years and rebuild it.
"CPM's greatest ever leader EMS said that a uniform civil code should be implemented in the country. Today is the thirty-eighth anniversary of the CPM members' demand in the Legislative Assembly for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. Leaders including Susheela Gopalan have said that they should struggle for a uniform civil code. But MV Govindan now says that the Congress has no clarity. Congress is a party that has strictly maintained that uniform civil code should not be implemented even when it is in power and when it is out of power. Congress is trying to unite everyone without making this a religious issue. BJP's strategy is to divide. CPM has come down to find out if anyone can be found in the meantime", Satheesan said.
"CPM leaders, Desabhimani and Kairali spread the word that the league will go now. That's what they thought. The League is a political movement that best assesses the national and Kerala politics and the changing situations. Sadiq Ali Thangal has said that he will not go to the CPM seminar and the Congress should lead the agitation against the uniform civil code in the country. Religious organizations, including Samastha, are free to participate in programs of their choice. Samasta leader Jifrikoya Thangal has made it clear that there will be no change in the relationship between the Congress and the League. There has been an insecurity among people including the Muslim community. There is nothing wrong in participating in the seminar conducted by the ruling party in Kerala."
"CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury is in the forefront of the goal of having a secular platform at the national level under the leadership of the Congress. Unfortunately CPM leaders in Kerala are working as B team of BJP. We are only dissatisfied with the leaders of Kerala. This is the politics of hypocrisy. We will dismantle and rebuild the communal appeasement that CPM has been doing in Kerala for the past seven years in the name of social engineering", Satheesan added.
