DOHA: Qatar has banned consumers from buying and consuming certain types of biscuits due to potential toxicity. The Ministry of Public Health has issued a warning against buying and using Spanish-made Teflon crackers.
The warning applies to Cracker Biscuits that expire on July 30, October 17 and October 27, 2023. The potential for toxicity also exists in Spanish-made 'Schalr Knusperprot Dunkel' biscuits, which expire on March 2, 3, 4, 6 and April 4, 2024.
Hence such biscuits currently in the market will be withdrawn soon. The ministry has instructed the distributors to collect the products. Those who have already bought these products can discard them or return them to the stores. The action follows a warning from the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed that these biscuits may contain excess atropine and scopolamine.
