KOLKATA: Repolling will be held today in areas where widespread violence and fake voting took place in connection with the panchayat elections West Bengal. The Election Commission decided to hold repolling today in more than 600 booths after widespread fraud in the election. Heavy security has been imposed in the state following the attacks.
The maximum number of repolling is taking place in Murshidabad district, 175 booths. Repolling is also being held in Nadia Purulia, Malda, Birbhum, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Jalpaiguri.
As per reports, 19 people were killed in the violence surrounding the polls in the state. The commission had sought a report from the district magistrates on the conflict. At the same time, Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of being behind the attacks. But the BJP has accused the TMC of trying to sabotage the election by unleashing violence.
Following the incident, Governor C.V. Ananda Bose may meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah today. Since the announcement of elections in the state, more than 30 people have been killed in attacks so far.
