NEW DELHI:Major cities in North India are on high alert after torrential rains continue to wreak havoc. According to the Meteorological department, the rain will continue for the next few days. More than thirty-seven people have died in the last three days.
The water level of the Yamuna river is rising sharply as Delhi continues to receive heavy rainfall.The water level rose from 205.33 meters yesterday evening to 206.24 meters this morning. Officials informed that the water level rose faster than expected. Steps have been taken to shift people from flood-prone areas to relief camps.
The situation in Himachal is also crital as four more people were killed in a landslide. With this, the state's overall death toll has reached twenty. The districts of Kullu, Solan, Lahaul, Kinnaur, Shimla, Bilaspur and Sirmaur have all been placed on red alert. Following a landslide in the Beas river, there was extensive devastation in the Mandi district.
Meanwhile, Ernakulam Government officials have informed that all 27 house surgeons of the medical college who were stuck in Manali are safe. The group of 10 women and 17 men are staying at Nasogi Woods and HPWD Guest House near Hadimba Temple.
