THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police are continuing to collect evidence in the case in which 85 sovereigns of gold were stolen from a house in Manacaud. Accused Shafeeq has been brought to the house in Manacaud. According to the police, Shafeeq sold half of the stolen gold in two jewellery shops in Kattakkada with the help of a woman. Police have found the gold from these jewellery shops. Efforts are going on to find the remaining gold.
Meanwhile, police have obtained visuals showing Shafeeq approaching the Thampanoor bus stand with the bag containing the stolen gold. The police said that Shafeeq is an accused who was earlier arrested in various cases such as theft, sexual assault, and murder cases. Shafeeq carried out the burglary while the family in Manacaud went out for visiting a temple. According to the police, Shafeeq might have entered and remained hidden in the house before Manacaud native Ramakrishnan and his family members went out to visit the temple.
The family, which left for Thiruchendur on Thursday, came to know about the burglary after returning on Friday afternoon. There were many guests in the house as the upanayana ceremony was going on in the house. The police suspect that the thief entered the house and remained hidden during this rush. The doors were not broken by force. When the family returned, they found that the second-floor door was open. The police believe that the burglar might have escaped this way.
