BHOPAL: Another one of the cheetahs brought to Kuno National Park from Namibia in South Africa has died. With this, the number of dead cheetahs has increased to seven within four months. Injuries were found on the neck of the male cheetah named Tejas at around 11 am today. Then the doctors examined the wounds and treated the cheetah after sedating him. The Cheetah was released after that but was he found dead at around 2 pm today. Chief Conservator of Forests JS Chauhan said the cause of death can be ascertained only after the post-mortem.
On March 27, a female cheetah named Sasha died of kidney disease. A cheetah named Uday also died due to illness on April 23. A female cheetah named Daksha died on May 9. Two cheetah cubs died on May 25 due to extreme weather and dehydration.
India brought eight cheetahs, including five females and three males, from Namibia as part of 'Project Cheetah', in September last year. As part of the Intercontinental Cheetah Translocation Project, eight cheetahs were brought to the country in a cargo flight. Later, the cheetahs were flown to Kuno National Park from Gwalior Air Force Station by an Indian Air Force helicopter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the one who released the cheetahs in Kuno.
