THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will adopt strict measures against shopkeepers selling daily essential goods at an increased price. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured about the move while talking at an event meant to discuss inflation. The CM directed all his ministers to do appropriately to stop such inhumane businesses from putting normal people's life in misery.

According to the new rules, every shop in Kerala should publicize a price list for the public to see. Department of Legal Metrology will also conduct occasional raids to inspect the situation. The food items stored should not cross the limit of expiry and if caught the shopkeeper will face charges including imprisonment.

The chief minister asked his cabinet to push Horticorp, consumer fed and civil supplies into business and to attract more public reach. The onam market of cooperative banks should open soon, ordered CM Pinarayi to his ministers.

A team including the district collector and police officers will visit famous markets in the city to see if the rates are according to standard ones or increased.
