THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in three districts today due to the rains in the state. Educational institutions in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta will remain closed today. A holiday has been declared for all schools and professional colleges at Kuttanad taluk in Alappuzha. All schools functioning as relief camps will remain closed in Kottayam and Pathanamthitta today.
Yellow alert has been issued in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod today. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod will be on yellow alert tomorrow. Yellow alert has been issued in Idukki, Kannur and Kasargod on Friday. Isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
Warning of high waves
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of a high wave of 0.8 to 1.2 meters along the Kerala coast till 05.30 pm on 12-07-2023 with a speed of 15 cm to 40 cm per second.
Issues alert to coastal residents and fishermen
1) As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Keep fishing vessels (boats and others) safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
3. Avoid trips to the beach and fun at sea altogether.
