KANNUR: Priya Varghese has taken charge as associate professor in the Kannur University. Priya Varghese took charge at the headquarters of Kannur University. Priya Varghese informed that she will join as an associate professor at the Nileswaram campus today. The university had handed over the appointment order to Priya after the high court division bench ruled that she had enough qualifications.

Meantime, the UGC will approach the Supreme Court against the high court verdict upholding Priya Varghese's appointment. The legal advice received is to appeal against the division bench verdict. A division bench of the high court ruled in favour of Priya Varghese considering her research period and NSS working period as teaching period.
The UGC also sees the possibility of legal action against candidates who do not have teaching experience as mentioned in the regulation. In this situation, UGC decided to move the apex court.
