KOCHI: The High Court directed the Justice G Sasidharan Commission, appointed by the government to prepare and give recommendations regarding the conduct of the SNDP Yogam elections, not to take any action for two months. Justice PV Kunhikrishnan issued the interim order on the petition filed by Kollam Karunagappalli R Vinod Kumar, Haripad Kumarapuram native D Rajeev, and Thodupuzha native Mithun Sagar against the government's action of appointing a commission to submit a recommendation on the election proceedings.
The single bench, which directed to issue notice to the government, the opposing party in the petition, also directed to issue notice to the SNDP Yogam and Justice Sasidharan Commission through a special messenger.
The petitioners contended that it is not legal for the government to appoint a commission for the election of the SNDP, which operates under the Companies Act. The petitioners also demanded that the government should stop the action of interfering in the election of the Yogam.
The High Court had earlier ordered that all members have the right to cast their votes in the SNDP Yogam elections. Following this, the government appointed the Justice Sasidharan Commission to submit recommendations regarding the SNDP Yogam elections. The government had allotted three months to the commission appointed on April 19. The petitioners are claiming that the government has no authority to interfere in the SNDP Yogam election and the government's interference is a violation of the High Court judgment and contempt of court.
