KOZHIKODE: An apartment was gutted in fire after a fridge exploded here. No one is hurt. The fire broke out at Dr Ramesh's 2G apartment on the second floor of Skyline Garnet Flats, Kottuli KT Gopalan Road at around 2.30 am yesterday.

Utensils, washing machine were destroyed in the fire. Three units from Beach Fire Station and one unit from Vellimadukunn tried to douse the fire for two hours. Smoke filled the apartment, making rescue operations difficult. Dr Ramesh and his wife Heera Prabhu heard an explosion from the kitchen and saw fire coming from the fridge freezer. He immediately came out and informed the people in other flats. The family said that there was a short circuit in the apartment two days ago. The initial assumption of the fire brigade is that the compressor unit of the fridge may have exploded.
