THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is actively discussing Metroman E Sreedharan's alternative proposals regarding the Silver Line project. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hold talks with E Sreedharan soon. It is hinted that representatives of K Rail will also attend the meet. K Rail Corporation's opinion will also be sought on Sreedharan's proposal. Changing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is also under consideration.
Sreedharan submitted the alternative report as demanded by special officer of Kerala in Delhi Prof K V Thomas following the directive of the chief minister. The report said the present K Rail project is impractical. Sreedharan said the DPR itself should be changed. Another option is the tunnel and the elevated way. This way the expense will be reduced tremendously and land need not be acquired in large quantities. Meantime, Sreedharan directed to keep it as standard gauge to increase the speed.
K V Thomas handed over Sreedharan’s report to the chief minister the other day. The union railway minister had earlier said that if changes are brought in the project document, it would be examined.
