THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a shocking revelation, the accused in the theft case at Manacaud confessed to stealing 87 sovereigns of gold from the residence. He intended to live a life of luxury before facing sentencing in an ongoing rape trial. The stolen gold was promptly sold, with approximately half a lakh rupees spent within two days.
Following the theft, the accused indulged in a lavish spree of personal grooming. He visited a renowned beauty parlour in Kattakada, where he received professional hair colouring, facial treatments and styling. Alongside his pampering session, he spent on branded clothing and acquired a brand new smartphone. Opting for a luxurious experience, he lodged at an elite bar hotel, relishing high-priced liquor and a wide variety of cuisine. Reports suggest that he was even planning a trip to Goa in the upcoming days.
Assisting the accused in selling the stolen gold was the second suspect Beemakann, who is the wife of Shafeeq's friend. In exchange for her involvement, the accused gifted Rs 2 lakhs to Beemakann and kept Rs 3 lakhs for himself. Both have been remanded for 14 days. The Fort Assistant Commissioner has announced plans to take Shafeeq into custody for further investigation.
