KOCHI: A doctor who was practising in Kerala without sufficient qualifications has been arrested by Kothamangalam police. The accused Murukeshwari (29), a native of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu was arrested after it was found that she was ineligible to practice in India. According to the police Murukeshwari had obtained a medical degree from Ukraine but was not qualified to practice as a doctor in India. She had been practising as a doctor at Kuthukuzhy life care hospital in Kothamangalam from September 2021 to March 15, 2022.

The incident came to light through the disclosure of another doctor who joined the hospital. Subsequently, the Medical Superintendent of Kothamangalam taluk hospital conducted an investigation. During the investigation, it was found that Murukeshwari practised using the registration number of another doctor. Following the investigation, the medical superintendent gave a report to the DMO and filed a police complaint. She was arrested from her relative's house in Tirunelveli. The police stated that there will be an investigation against the hospital.
