THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a tragic incident, a man consumed poison along with his wife and their two children at Pullamukku in Peringamala in the capital city. The man and his daughter died while his wife and son are battling for their lives in the hospital.

Sivarajan (56), owner of Abhirama Jewellery in Pulingudi and his daughter Abhirami (22) are the two dead. Sivarajan and his family had food on Thursday night laced with poison. Sivarajan’s wife Bindu is still in a serious condition. Their relatives said Sivarajan’s son Arjun had spoken to them.

The incident came to light when Sivarajan’s aged mother woke up in the morning. When she called Sivarajan, he did not wake up and then she called her grandson Arjun.

Arjun, who showed physical uneasiness called the Vizhinjam police and informed them of having consumed poison. The police arrived and shifted them to the hospital. By the time they reached the hospital, Sivarajan and Abhirami had died. Initial reports said financial liability led the family to take the extreme step. The locals said they had taken loan from KSFE and had failed in repaying it. The police are enquiring whether there are any other reasons. The inquest proceedings are underway.
