SHANKHUMUKHAM: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has intensified checks to control the carrying of prohibited items in check-in baggage. Inline remote baggage screening has been introduced to quickly detect contraband in baggage. Number of banned products confiscated are as follows: April - 1012, May - 1201 and June – 1135.

Certain items including batteries and power banks are permitted to be carried as cabin baggage by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. But things including e-cigarettes were completely banned.

Prohibited items

Lighter, matchbox, copra (dried coconut), e-cigarette, insecticide, camphor, spray paint, pepper spray, cracker, GPS tracker.

Items allowed in cabin baggage only

Battery, power bank, laptop, camera, mobile battery, dry ice, oxygen cylinder (up to five kilo).

Items allowed in check-in bag only

Martial arts weapons, spice powders, tools, toys, sharps, ropes and luggage chains, oil (maximum five litres), thermometer.
