THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K B Ganesh Kumar, MLA and popular actor has made serious remarks about the lack of progress in Kerala over the past five decades. During a recent event, which was attended by Education Minister V Sivankutty, Ganesh pointed out that the state continues to face the same problems that existed 50 years ago.
Highlighting a concerning statistic, he stated that a significant 74 percent of Kerala's total expenditure is allocated to government officials. Within this allocation, a staggering 64 percent is directed towards the salaries of school and college teachers. He raised a pertinent question regarding whether such a high percentage of expenditure on education is yielding the desired results. Drawing a parallel to the movie 'Ee Naadu,' released half a century ago, Ganesh Kumar emphasized that the problems depicted in the film are still prevalent in Kerala.
He further shed light on an earlier government order that prohibited the failure of students in classes 1 to 9. He clarified that this order is still in force making it difficult to gauge the actual standards and performance of students. He urged the government to introduce a learning model that encourages both students and teachers to take responsibility for their education
