THRISSUR: The carcass of a wild elephant was found buried in a rubber plantation in Thrissur earlier today. The Forest Department has found that Pala native Maniyanchira Roy, the owner of the plantation, has fled to Goa. The carcass of the elephant was found in the plantation during an investigation conducted by the Forest Department after it received a complaint from the NGO 'Save Our Wildlife' that one of the wild elephants seen in the region had gone missing. According to the officials, the dead male elephant is less than 15 years old.
The reason behind the elephant's death is yet to be found. Forest Surgeon Dr. Ashok said that the reason can be ascertained only after conducting examinations. The carcass was found with one of the elephant's ivory tusks cut off. Earlier, the forest department had arrested two persons who came with JCB to bury the elephant. The officials got the information regarding the carcass of the elephant upon questioning Akhil Mohan, one of the four accused arrested for trying to sell ivory in Pattimattam.
The forest department is traveling to Goa in search of the accused. Machadu Range Officer is conducting the probe into the incident. The rubber plantation where the carcass of the wild elephant was found is located in an area that is a popular route for elephants.
