THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The dilemma over plus one higher secondary admission in Malappuram remains unsolved even after the completion of four allotments and supplementary allotments. Earlier, the education minister promised to solve the issue by the end of the third allotment but has now changed his stance asking for patience until the finish of the next supplementary allotment.
32,433 students in the state await a seat for plus one higher secondary class. From this 27, 046 students hail from the Malabar belt. From Malappuram district, there are 13654 students in anguish over the delay in admission. For students of Malappuram district, there remain just four merit seats for plus one class. From Palakkad to Kasargod districts, there are a total of 1781 merit seats available.
According to details from the higher secondary department, there are 9872 unaided seats, and 3184 management seats available in Malappuram district which brings to a combined 13,060 seats in the district.
After the release of the supplementary allotment, 35163 students out of 67,596 were assured seats in plus one. The chances to get seats through supplementary allotment ended yesterday at 4 pm. Meanwhile, rumors are running big against the government saying the higher officials in power are delaying the release of the Karthikeyan committee report that was assigned to study the predicament experienced by the educational system in the Malabar belt.
