WAYANAD: A pregnant woman died after jumping into the river with her five-year-old daughter. Darshan, who jumped into the river with her baby at Venniyod in Wayanad, died while undergoing treatment. Omprakash's wife Darshana, who is a native of Venniyod, jumped into the river from the Venniyod Pathikkal Bridge yesterday along with her daughter Daksha. As per reports, Darshana, who was four months pregnant, jumped into the river after consuming poison.

Darshana was saved but her daughter could not be found. Darshana was admitted to a private hospital in Meppadi and succumbed to her health condition. The search for her daughter continued till late today but the result was disappointing.

The incident was around 3:30 yesterday evening. Darshana reached the bridge with his daughter and jumped into the river. A youth who was nearby at the time of the incident rescued Darshana and brought her to the shore. Then I got the information that my daughter was also with me. The baby's sandal and umbrella were recovered from the bridge. The fire force and NDRF team were part of the rescue mission to find the baby.
