KOCHI: Three people, including a native of Elamkulam, who was P. Thilothaman's assistant private secretary when he was a minister, have been arrested by the police in a job fraud case. Former Asst. Private Secretary Satheesh Chandran (66), Maimood (Salim-50) from Kozhikode Nadapuram and Biju (48) from Perumanur were arrested by South Police.
The police said that they extorted around 2 crores from around 50 candidates by offering them jobs in government and non-government institutions. Abdul Basith, a native of Malappuram, was arrested in a case of extorting 11 lakh rupees by offering him a job as an electrical engineer in Kochi Metro. Satheesh Chandran took the money in 2021. After not getting a job, Basith lodged a complaint with the police.
Similar frauds were discovered in the subsequent investigation. The scam involved offering jobs in Devaswom Board colleges, Civil Supplies Corporation, Camco and others. There are cases against Satish Chandran in Kottayam and Kannur districts for similar offences. Satheesh Chandran was accused of financial manipulation in the Civil Supplies Corporation while he was a private secretary.
