Senna Hedge-directed Padmini got released yesterday and is receiving mixed reactions from the public. The movie is produced by Little Big Films which also brought hits including Kunjiramayanam and Kalki. As the movie continues its run in theatres, a small tiff also opened doors and is currently triggering news.
Producers of the movie came with a Facebook post to thank the viewers for accepting the film but later took turns to admonish the leading actor's lack of commitment shown for the movie.
According to Suvin K Varkey, one of the producers of the film:
"People have accepted Padmini with open arms. We are more than pleased for the love you are showering on the movie. Thanks to Senna and writer Sreeraj for crafting a neat entertainer. The film even finished seven days before the promised date which adds to our relief. The movie is a sure shot win for us as the theatre collections are showing signs of an upward swing. Meanwhile, some other things also need to be mentioned.
The leading actor and his presence is the impetus for roping in people to the theaters, it is applicable to every film. Our leading actor took Rs 2.5 crore for the movie but never made a single promotion work. He works according to his wife’s dictates. She asked him to watch the raw footage of the movie and he later skipped the planned promotion works exclusively made for him by a promotion consultant. He has been repeating the same condescending attitude for the last three movies and it amazes me that nobody in the movie world is batting an eyelid about it.
Imagine the same actor producing this movie; he would have hassled all way across studies and TV channels filling interviews for promotion, day and night. The change in attitude happened only because the producers were outsiders but not any familiar faces in the industry. However, it seems the actor is now busy spending time in Europe with family and cares less about the yeoman work we do to push the movie to victory.
