KOZHIKODE: CPM seminar held in Kozhikode called for a concerted fight against the Uniform Civil Code. Although the Muslim League abstained from the seminar, all prominent leaders of Muslim religious and community organizations, including the EK sect Sunnis, participated in the seminar. There was massive participation from various sections of the public. Fr. Joseph Kalarickal of Thamarassery Diocese, Fr. Jenson Monsilor Puthanveetil of Kozhikode Diocese, and SNDP Yogam Devaswom Secretary Santhosh Arayakkandi expressed solidarity at the event.
CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, who inaugurated the seminar, said that Uniform Civil Code is part of BJP's Hindutva agenda.
"India's pluralism should be recognized. The constitution gives the right to the different social classes of India to preserve their custom, rites, and traditions. India's diversity should be accepted and moved forward. The current move is regardless of this. BJP aims at division in the name of uniformity. Uniformity is not equality," Yechury said.
CPM State Secretary MV Govindan said the fact that everyone is getting united for a common goal beyond politics is a great energy for the struggles against the Uniform Civil Code.
Chairman of the organizing committee KP Ramanunny presided over the seminar. Representatives of many organizations participated in the seminar. Mukkam Ummer Faizi (Secretary, Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama, Hajj Committee Member), C. Muhammad Faizi (Kerala Muslim Jamaat State Vice President, Chairman Hajj Committee), TP Abdulla Koya Madani (President, KNM), CP Ummer Sullami (General Secretary, Markazudawa) and Dr. Fazal Gafoor (President, MES) took part in the seminar.
