THRIKKAKARA: The accused in a sexual trafficking case in Varapuzha has been arrested again on charges of sexual assault. Zakariya(53) staying in an apartment near Thrikkakara temple was arrested for a sexual assault case after the police received complaints from two more women.
The police were investigating an earlier complaint from a Kakkanad native woman who accused Zakariya of molesting her inside his apartment. The investigation was ongoing when another woman from Kozhikode appeared with a complaint. According to the new complainant, the man assaulted her in the flat and locked her inside for days. Later he took her to a bar nearby to continue the same gruesome episodes of assault.
By sheer luck, the woman escaped Zakariya's devious hands after some days. Zakariya, in no mood to leave her alone, started intruding on her social media coercing her to return to Kochi. She feared another abuse so grabbed her nerves to complain about the incident to Beypore police. The case was later transferred to Thrikkakara police from Beypore.
Zakariya after learning about the complaint switched off his phone and went into hiding in a lodge near Nedumbassery, from where he was caught. Zakariya is also charged in another case for sharing a minor girl with customers in Varapuzha and assaulting a Kannur native in a more similar manner. After checking his phone, the police acquired vital details and several photographs of girls and women who may be ostensible victims of his trap. He was once found guilty by a special court in 2014.
