THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is all set to provide the city gas pipeline connection early next year as a 2024 New Year gift in the capital. The connection will be provided to fifty thousand houses in 31 wards. A similar move is being made in Alappuzha as well. The steps for this are progressing rapidly. Wards in Kazhakoottam, Vattiyoorkavu, and Thiruvananthapuram constituencies will benefit.

City gas has already been made available to 4400 households in six nearby corporation wards from the plant at Kochuveli in the capital. This facility is currently available to the people of Vettukadu, Shangumugham, Chaaka, Palkulangara, Perunthanni, and Sreekanteswaram wards. More than twelve thousand new applications have been received. The challenge is that the plant can provide only 50 to 55 connections a day as per the current facility. The work to raise this is also progressing rapidly. The distribution of connection will be soon implemented in Beemapally East, Valiyathura, and Manikyavilakam wards as well. After that, connections will be provided in Pettah, Kadakampally, and Karikkakam wards. The move is to provide connection facilities in 22 more wards by December this year.
