THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A housewife was murdered in broad daylight by relatives in Kalathara, near Varkala. The incident happened at 11 am on Sunday when a scuffle regarding property ended up in the murder of 56-year-old Leenamani. She was shifted to a private hospital in Varkala but died at 1 pm while undergoing treatment.
According to police, there was unrest within the family regarding talks about property inheritance, while relatives said it was Leenamani’s husband's brothers who stabbed her to death. Leenamani's husband died long back, and there were disputes ongoing about inheriting the ancestral home. The police point this ensuing tiff might have led the way to the murder. Earlier, some within the family tried to wrest control of the property from Leenamani's name which she countered in court. The court decision was in favour of her but Ahmed and his family barged into the house and started staying there forcibly. The police came to this house some days back to give the court order which forced Ahmed to vacate the house. The issue triggered anger within the family and a quarrel broke out today morning as Leenamani was getting ready to attend a wedding.
Shaji, Muhsin, and Ahmed are the three accused in the crime. After the attack, all three ran away to escape. The police have started an investigation and till now, no news regarding the arrest is made available.
