THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the latest admission update for the Plus One program, the first supplementary allotment has been completed. It revealed that there are 10,506 vacant seats in the merit quota. Pathanamthitta district has the highest number of vacancies in the merit category, with 1,395 seats remaining unfilled. Wayanad district has the fewest vacancies with only 173 seats left. A total of 3,903 seats in the sports quota, 10,330 seats in the management quota, 3,226 seats in the community quota and 36,325 seats in the unaided category remain vacant. These categories along with the merit quota, account for 80 percent of the overall 64,290 vacant seats. The district of Malappuram is facing a severe shortage with 389 merit seats still vacant. There are still 13,654 eligible students awaiting admission in this district alone. Unfortunately, the Education Department has not provided any information about a second supplementary allotment. Despite the Education Minister's assurance that all students seeking admission will be accommodated progress seems to be at a standstill. As a result, many students who have been left without a seat may consider enrolling in the open school as the registration for it is set to begin next week.
