THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A public holiday has been declared in Kerala today as a mark of respect to former chief minister Oommen Chandy. A two-day mourning has also been announced. Chandy passed away Tuesday morning at 4.25 am in Bengaluru hospital while undergoing treatment for cancer. An era in Kerala politics ends with Chandy's death.

Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen informed the sad news through his Facebook page. The body will be brought to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru. It will be later taken to Puthupally. His last rites will be held there.
