While discussions are going on regarding the construction of the Angamali-Erumely Sabari rail line, a recent report is claiming that the central government has given a green signal to the Chengannur-Pampa rail line, another elevated rail line. It is claimed that Sabarimala pilgrims and those coming from the proposed Erumely airport will benefit from the Chengannur-Pampa rail line.

The Centre has appointed the agency to submit a detailed report after Metroman E Sreedharan submitted the Pampa project to the Union Ministry of Railways. It is hinted that the BJP has no objection to the project. BJP can't oppose the project because of Sreedharan's intervention. MK Varghese Cor Episcopa, a priest in the Orthodox Church, prepared the report that reached in front of the Centre.

It was the Pullumedu tragedy in 2011 which prompted MK Varghese Cor Episcopa to come up with such a concept. 106 Ayyappa pilgrims were killed due to the stampede and rush for Makaravilakku back then. He prepared the report by travelling along the river bank from Chengannur to Pampa seven times.

The elevated rail line will be constructed on concrete pillars through the outlying land on the river bank. The proposed project will start from Kallissery in Chengannur and reach Pampa via Aranmula, Kozhencherry, Cherukolpuzha, Ranni, Mukkam, Athikkayam, Perunthenaruvi, Kanamala and Attathodu. The Angamali-Erumely Sabari Rail was conceived to address the lack of train service for passengers to the eastern region. Although actions were taken to implement the project at a fast pace while BJP leader O Rajagopal served as the Minister of State for Railways, the project got entangled in legal issues related to land acquirement. The Sabari rail project got a reawakening when the state government again approached the second Modi government for the project after getting rid of the legal entanglement. In the meantime, discussions began for a new project called Chengannur - Pampa. Some are suspecting that this move is being made to sabotage the Sabari project.

It must be noted that the Pampa project was born when there is a proposal to extend the Sabari Project from Erumely to Thiruvananthapuram via Punalur.

It must be noted that the Pampa project got birth when a proposal is being made to extend the Sabari Project from Erumely to Thiruvananthapuram via Punalur. The central government has a positive approach to any project in the field of transport that is submitted without objection from the people. There is no problem of land acquisition by private persons in the case of the Pampa project. The project area is the outlying lands on the banks of Pampa. Only encroachment eviction action is required while conducting the land survey. That is why the Centre appointed the agency to submit a detailed project report. The cost of the project is estimated at nine thousand crores. According to the new policy of the Union Ministry of Railways, projects that are not profitable projects will not be taken up. There are many Sabarimala pilgrims from Chengannur to Pampa. Ayyappa devotees mostly come from the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh during the Makaravilakku season. After getting down from the train at the Chengannur railway station, they travel to Pampa by KSRTC buses. If the Pampa elevated rail becomes a reality, pilgrims will be able to reach Pampa in forty-five minutes from Chengannur. It takes at least two hours to travel from Chengannur to Pampa on KSRTC buses.
