THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's body was brought to the Durbar Hall for public homage. A large number of people estimated to be tens of thousands gathered to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader. Senior Congress leaders A K Antony and V M Sudheeran were deeply moved by the sight of their dear colleague's body. They offered solace to Oommen Chandy's family before leaving. Monks from Sivagiri Mutt also paid their respects to the late Chief Minister. The public homage was scheduled for 5 o'clock. It is delayed due to large number of people who had come to pay their respects.
Oommen Chandy breathed his last today around 4:30 am in a private hospital in Bengaluru. His body was brought to Thiruvananthapuram via a special flight at 2:30 pm. Many including senior Congress leaders gathered at the airport to bid farewell to their beloved leader. Accompanied by a large crowd the body was then taken to Oommen Chandy's residence, Puthupally House in Thiruvananthapuram.
There will be another public homage held at St. George's Orthodox Cathedral located near the Secretariat where Oommen Chandy used to offer prayers during his time in Thiruvananthapuram. The body will be taken to Indira Bhavan, the headquarters of the KPCC for public homage. Finally, the body will be returned to the Thiruvananthapuram residence at night.
