oommen-chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Last February, former CM Oomen Chandy was admitted to NIMS hospital, Neyyattinkara. He was affected by Pneumonia. This visit marked the former CM’s tryst with cancer. Oommen Chandy was since then lodged in his favorite abode of 'Puthupally house' in Jagathy but the cancer showed up again making things worse for the congress veteran. For this purpose, Oommen Chandy was preparing a move to Bangalore but then he experienced breathlessness and was rushed to NIMS again.

Rumors painted the twilight years of the leader in a bad light, as Oommen Chandy’s own brother Alex raised accusations about the family denying proper treatment to his brother. This forced CM Pinarayi Vijayan to order health minister Veena George to look into the issue. Under the monitoring of the Kerala health minister, Oommen Chandy was taken to Bangalore for better health care.

On February 12, Oommen Chandy reached Bangalore. After several days of treatments from experts, the former CM fought all ways to come out of pneumonia. The immunotherapy session which he was undergoing never had any side effects and thus instilled high hopes in the family.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other famed names used to visit him often in the hospital. Recently Mohanlal telephoned Mr Chandy and the conversation was all news. The health improved massively which made the family rent a flat near the hospital and Oommen Chandy found a new abode to recover.

Out from the myriad political commitments and from all hassles, Oommen Chandy got mired in leisure time with grandchildren. Recently, Chandy Oomen posted an image on FB that saw the leader gracing his old peculiar smile. He even visited a church near the hospital on special occasions, but a fever that caught him last week turned villain bringing him back into the emergency section of the hospital.
