SABARIMALA: The money and offerings offered by pilgrims at Sabarimala got soaked in rainwater. Conveyor belts sank due to rainwater in the underground passage of the warehouse. The wall of the underground passage was also found leaking. Inaccuracy in the design and unscientific construction of the new warehouse is the reason for the water entering the underground passage.
The Devaswom authorities did not specify how much money was lost. The money which was offered on the evening of the 16th and the morning of the 17th for the Karkataka month pujas were soaked in rainwater. Attempts were made to dry them.
Conveyor belts which transport the offerings from the old offering box to the new one went underwater. With the help of small motor pumps, around twenty labourers pumped the water. If it rains continuously, the conveyor has to be stopped. The Devaswom staff came to know about the leak on the morning of the 17th when the new offering box was full of water. Eventually, the conveyors stopped working. The offerings and money from the old box were tied in sacks and brought to the new one.
