NEDUMBASSERY: A flyer was caught by the Customs Air Intelligence Department for trying to smuggle 629.5 grams of gold through the Kochi International Airport. Muhammad Yasir, a native of Thrissur, who came from Dubai in a Spice Jet flight, was arrested. He had hidden the gold in three capsules in his anus. It will cost around 33 lakh rupees.
Earlier there were reports that gold smuggling from Malaysia using women in the state is increasing. Malaysian gold smuggling gangs overtake Gulf countries. 4.308 kg of gold worth Rs 2.13 crore was seized at the Kochi International Airport from Malaysia in the last one month. The step change came after those who came with gold from the Gulf region were continuously caught.
