NEW DELHI: A case has been registered against a coalition of 26 opposition parties for choosing the name 'INDIA' for their alliance. The complaint alleges that the unnecessary use of the name 'INDIA' is an attempt to unfairly influence public sentiment. The case was filed by Avinash Mishra who raised concerns about the alliance's choice of name.
The opposition parties came together and officially named their alliance 'INDIA' during a meeting held in Karnataka yesterday.
One notable response came from Himanta Biswa Sharma, the Chief Minister of Assam who changed his Twitter bio from 'India' to 'Bharat.' Sharma justified his action by stating that the name 'India' was a legacy of British rule while 'Bharat' holds historical significance as a name for the country. In a tweet, Sharma emphasized that our predecessors fought for the name 'Bharat.' Congress leader Jairam Ramesh countered Sharma's argument pointing out that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who named various government initiatives such as Skill India, Start-Up India and Digital India. Ramesh tweeted that Modi himself encouraged Chief Ministers to work as a unified team referred to as 'Team India' and urged voters to support 'INDIA' in his campaign rallies.
The opposition parties, in response have decided to add a tagline after the name 'INDIA.' The chosen tagline is 'Jeethega Bharat,' which translates to 'India Will Win.'
