NEW DELHI: The central government will reduce the price of subsidized tomatoes from Rs 80 to Rs 70 per kg. Since last Friday the Center has taken steps to sell tomatoes at subsidized rates.

NAFED and NCCF are providing tomatoes at subsidized rates in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Patna from July 20. A person can buy only two kilos. The Department of Consumer Affairs has instructed NAFED and NCCF to sell tomatoes at the rate of Rs 70 from tomorrow.

Earlier, the government had given tomatoes at a subsidized rate of Rs 90 per kg and then from July 16 onwards at Rs 80 per kg. Tomatoes stored in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra were brought to Delhi overnight to ease the tomato crisis.
