THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a move aimed at offering affordable travel options to the common people, the 'Vande Sadharan' train modelled after the successful Vande Bharat Express is set to commence operations from October. This service will cater to the needs of passengers from various regions across the country including Kerala. The initial plan includes a weekly service connecting Ernakulam and Guwahati.
Unlike the premium Vande Bharat Express, 'Vande Sadharan' will prioritize affordability and accessibility. While it will feature modern systems similar to its counterpart there will be no air-conditioning provided onboard. Food distribution is expected to be limited. The objective behind launching this service is to address the high-ticket prices associated with the high-speed Vande Bharat Express making train travel more accessible for the general public. This move is also seen as a strategic decision ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Operating on some of the busiest routes, the 'Vande Sadharan' train will maintain a speed similar to the Vande Bharat Express.
Speed equal to Vande Bharat
The train composition will consist of eight second-class unreserved coaches, twelve second-class three-tier coaches and a specially designed coach to cater to the needs of differently-abled passengers. All coaches will be non-AC providing a cost-effective travel option for the masses. The construction of the 'Vande Sadharan' train has incurred an estimated cost of 65 crores and has been manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
