KAYAMKULAM: The arrest of three people, who were taken into custody in the case of the murder of the DYFI regional committee member, will be recorded today. The groups on bikes clashed in the middle of the road. Ambadi (21), a member of the DYFI Devikulangara regional committee and son of Puthuppally native Santhosh, was hacked to death around 5.30 pm on Tuesday. Krishnapuram Kappil natives Amitabh Chandran, Akshay Chandran, and Vijith are in the custody of the Kayamkulam police.
Tensions began to rise between the two groups at around 4 pm on Tuesday when Arjun started a bike race in front of the Krishnapuram Panchayat office when six members, including Ambadi and his brother Arjun, were on their way to Kappil East to play cricket. Arjun and Akshay Chandran had an altercation here. By this time, the others had gone to the ground. Following this, Arjun and Akshay informed their brothers Amitabh and Ambadi about the altercation. Following this, the two groups started fighting on the road.
Amitabh slashed Ambadi's neck with a steel knife during the clash between the two gangs at Mavanal Kutty junction. Although Ambadi was rushed to the Kayamkulam taluk hospital, he could not be saved. Amitabh and Vijith suffered injuries in the conflict. Amitabh Chandran is an accused in seven cases including KAAPA, POCSO, and an attempt to murder.
The CPM held a hartal in Devikulangara yesterday to protest the murder. The funeral took place on Wednesday. CPM state secretary MV Govindan visited Ambadi's house.
