THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Oommen Chandy came to console Sheraf (56) when he lost his body mobility in a car accident. As a result of his intervention, the family came out of misery when his son Milhan got a dependent appointment in the local administration department. Oommen Chandy, who had been placed in his mind as God's equal, Sheraf is in unimaginable grief since he could not see him.

In 2015, Sheraf's scooter was hit by another vehicle when he was working as a senior clerk in the Arattupuzha panchayat in the Alappuzha district. He lost complete mobility down the neck and was paralysed. All savings were spent on treatment. As he was no longer able to work, the local administration department granted an invalid pension to Sheraf. The situation of the family, which included an unemployed wife, a graduate student son, and a daughter who was a class 9 student, was in dire straits. KT Jaleel, who was the minister of Local Administration in the first Pinarayi government, brought it to the notice of the chief minister, but due to technical reasons, his son was not given a dependent appointment.

Oommen Chandy, who had read the news published by 'Kerala Kaumudi' about Sheriff's woes, went to meet Sheraf when he came to Kollam for a private function. He promised to help if a petition is prepared and submitted directly to the Chief Minister. He kept his word. After informing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the cabinet meeting decided to appoint Milhan.
