CHALAKUDY: Two people were killed when a Bolero jeep carrying a forest guard lost control and rammed into a group of people on the national highway near the Chalakudy South flyover. The deceased are Chalakudy native Kunjaamma Thankachan (Mercy-61) and an unidentified 70-year-old man. The accident took place at around 1.45 pm on Wednesday.

The vehicle of the Paravattani Forest Station office which was coming from Ernakulam was involved in the accident. The front tyre of the jeep burst while crossing the service road from the national highway. The vehicle lost control and hit the footpath before hitting Kunjamma, who was selling lottery tickets here, and the old man.

The two were rushed to the hospital by the Forest officials and locals. However, Kunjaama died before reaching the hospital. The old man, who was in the intensive care unit, died at night. According to locals, the old man, a native of Kottayam, has been seen in Chalakudy city for a few years.
