NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the footage of the incident in Manipur where two women were paraded naked in public has hurt his heart. He addressed the incident before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament.'What happened to the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven. The incident is a shame for the country itself. Criminals will not escape', said the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also expressed concern over the incident. 'Government should take necessary action. We are very upset about the situation. This can never be accepted. Releasing the footage through the media is a gross violation of the Constitution- Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said.
The heart-wrenching video came out last day from Manipur where the communal riots are raging. The incident took place on May 4. The Centre has asked Twitter and other social media platforms to take down the video. The centre has urged not to share the video as the matter is under investigation. The footage shows two women belonging to the Kuki community being stripped naked by a mob and marched along the road and then gang-raped in a nearby field.
