A team of officers led by Range Officer Sridevi Madhusudhan took the accused to the plantation where the elephant was buried and collected evidence. It is reported that Roy called Joby, his friend, to help bury the elephant. The elephant's carcass was found buried in Roy's rubber plantation in Vazhakode near the Mullurkara Palazhi state highway on July 15.
Ernakulam Pattimatom native Akhil Mohan, who was arrested first in the case, said that the elephant died of electric shock on June 14th. According to reports, it was plantation owner Roy who set up a trap for the wild elephant using an electric wire. It is said that the trap was set up to drive away the wild boars in the place where wild animals, including elephants, are destroying the crops. The incident came to light when Akhil Mohan, who had cut the ivory tusk and taken it away, was caught while trying to sell it.
