IMPHAL: A second arrest has been made in the brutal molestation of two women in Manipur. Chief Minister N Biren Singh has confirmed the arrest through his Twitter page. Earlier, after the release of the horrid video of the naked parade, Thoubal native Heradas (32) was arrested. The arrests have courted controversy since the police action comes 70 days after registering the case. The arrests wouldn't have been made possible if not for the video to surface.
According to the 21-year-old gang rape victim, she along with her family were heading towards the forest to save themselves, after an angry mob started vandalizing homes in their village. She with her family luckily jumped in front of Nongpok Sekmai police and was escorted to safety. Midway through the journey they were stopped by the angry mobs. The police after presaging danger, gave away the family to the mob. Her father was murdered by the mob in front of her while her brother is also supposed to be murdered. She was stripped from her clothes and paraded naked by the mob. In a gruesome conclusion, she was gang raped in a field by the same mob.
The case was actually registered on May 18, but it took all these months for the police to jump into action.
