KOLLAM: While prices remain high in the market, subsidized goods are not available in Supplyco stores. This is making life difficult for the common man. Although the government is keeping its promise that the prices of 13 essential subsidized goods will not be increased, the promise is losing its relevance as required items are not available in Supplyco stores. With this, people are forced to purchase goods for higher prices.

The government owes Rs 2000 crores to Supplyco for the sale of subsidized goods. Due to this, Supplyco is unable to pay its suppliers. As a result, suppliers are no longer interested in supplying goods to Supplyco. The companies that take orders from Supplyco out of kindness, deliver the goods at the time they feel. This has paved the way for the current crisis.

The racks in which subsidized goods are kept are remaining empty in most Supplyco stores in the Kollam district. Although people are visiting Supplyco and Maveli stores in the state, only very few items on the subsidy list are available in these stores.
