NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will issue a statement on the Manipur riots today in Parliament. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who said that the government is ready to discuss the matter, added that the Speaker will decide on which day the matter should be taken up for discussion in Parliament. MK Premachandran MP issued a notice for an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha seeking a discussion on the issue.

Meanwhile, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned following the protest staged by the opposition. The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12 o'clock, while the Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 o'clock. Yesterday, the opposition protested in both houses of the Parliament demanding that the Prime Minister make a statement on the Manipur issue. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a statement outside the Parliament on the Manipur issue. This was the first time, the Prime Minister spoke out on the issue two months after the Manipur riots started. Modi said that the scenes of violence and the incident of women being paraded naked in public were very painful. He added that not one of the culprits would escape punishment.

Meanwhile, the house of the main accused, who stripped and paraded women in Manipur, was set on fire by a group of people. The incident took place within two days of the release of a video showing women being paraded naked. A group set the house on fire this morning.

The incident happened on May 3 in Manipur's Kangpokpi. However, after the restoration of the internet system in the state, this shocking video surfaced only two days ago and led to strong protests across the country.


The police informed that four accused in the incident have been arrested so far. Following the shocking visuals, there has been a demand from some quarters to oust the chief minister. However, Chief Minister Biren Singh informed that the death penalty would be ensured for the accused.
