THRISSUR: The Thrissur Vigilance Court has sentenced an overseer to two years of rigorous imprisonment for accepting bribes. Jimmy Varghese has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The incident related to the case took place in 2010. Back then, Jimmy Varghese was working as an overseer in Wadakkanchery Panchayat. He had taken a bribe of Rs 5000.

Jimmy had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant after the complainant submitted an application to get the building number allotted. Following this, the Vigilance officials reached his house and took him into custody. He was found guilty in the case that was registered later. Jimmy will have to spend an additional six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine of Rs 50,000.
